Overview

Tableau allows users to filter charts and dashboards to show specific data types. These filters can be saved to view later.

Using Tableau Filters

The majority of the reports include filters, they are displayed on the right-hand side of the view.  For example, if you are interested in seeing only results for a certain purchased order, you would use the filters in the view.  Screen shots that describe the filtering steps are below:

To filter, click in the appropriate filed, in this case PO ID.

 Unclick the box “All”

Type the desired value (in this case PO ID 109582) into the field at the top of the list, just below the filter bar.

Check the box next to the PO ID

Then click Apply

After the filters are applied, the report will display the data associated with the filters.  Most reports will carry the filters from tab to tab.  In the example above the PO data will display on the invoice tab as well as the graph by month tab, without having to reapply.
