Overview

Tableau allows users to filter charts and dashboards to show specific data types. These filters can be saved to view later.

Using Tableau Filters

The majority of the available reports in Tableau include filters, they are displayed on the right-hand side of the view.  For example, if you are interested in seeing only results for a certain purchased order, you would use the filters in the view.  Screen shots that describe the filtering steps are below:. Filters define what parts of a data set are included in the report view. For most reports, filters set in one view a report are applied to all other views of the same report. Filter types vary based on the report data.

  1. To filter, click in the appropriate filed, in this case PO ID.
  2. Uncheck the box “All”

     3. Type the desired value (in this case PO ID 109582) into the field at the top of the list, just below the filter bar.

     4. Check the box next to the PO ID

     5. Click Apply

Complete the above steps for any additional filter on the report. After the filter(s) are applied, the report will refresh and display the data according to the parameters applied in the set filters. If this report enables filters to carry from one view to the rest, all views of the same report will enable to same set filters.
